The Little Artist

Art is a subjective term. Skateboarding could be considered an art, depending on the audience questioned. Normally, art is considered a medium using some form of a stylus to put color on a deck. My deck is on a skateboard. I (Chaaya Springer) am twelve years old and I am the founder of Skate for Nature. And my story begins on a cold winter night. This was during the pandemic, so I had a lot of time after 3 PM to run around in my expansive Virginian backyard. Many of those nights were spent huddling under a heat lamp, painting the intricate details on a white canvas. Painting, however, was not my medium. In fact, I kind of sucked at it. I think I still do. If this is ever successful, my opinions will change. And those canvases were my beginning.

When I moved to California at age eleven, my canvas changed drastically. It became wooden and curved at the end. I might also add that I have always had a fervent passion for environmental sciences. Climate change and other problems were sort of ubiquitous in my life. We couldn't go out on days when the air quality was bad and we learned to compost from school. I hope that when I grow up no kids will need to worry about these problems with the literal future of the world balanced precariously on their shoulders. Thats is the goal of Skate for Nature.
