Why Eco Skateboards Are the Future of Skating

Skateboarding has always been about freedom, creativity, and pushing boundaries. But lately, I've been thinking about how my passion for skating can also align with my growing concern for the environment. It turns out, the future of skating is not just about tricks and style - it's about sustainability too. That’s where eco skateboards come in, and honestly, they’ve changed the way I look at my board and the planet.

What Makes Sustainable Skating Benefits So Important?

When I first heard about sustainable skating benefits, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, how much difference can a skateboard make in the grand scheme of things? But the more I dug into it, the more I realized that every small choice counts. Skateboards traditionally use a lot of maple wood, which comes from trees that take decades to grow.

Switching to sustainable options means:

  • Reducing deforestation by using alternative materials or responsibly sourced wood.

  • Lowering carbon footprints through eco-friendly manufacturing.

  • Supporting ethical brands that give back to environmental causes.

  • Encouraging a culture of care within the skateboarding community.

It’s not just about feeling good; it’s about making a real impact. And if you’re like me, someone who loves skating but hates the idea of harming the planet, this is a win-win.

How Eco Skateboards Are Made Differently

I was curious about what sets an eco skateboard apart from a regular one. Turns out, it’s all in the materials and the process. Many eco-friendly skateboards use bamboo. Bamboo is especially cool because it grows super fast and is incredibly strong - perfect for a deck that needs to take a beating.

Some brands, like us, take it a step further by hand-painting each board, turning them into unique pieces of art. This not only reduces waste but also supports local artists and charities. Plus, the paints and finishes they use are non-toxic and biodegradable.

Plus, at Skate for Nature, an extra 10% goes to conservation, so that you can not only make a statement with your board, but with where you got it and with where it's going.
